Living Room

We often gather in the Living Room at the beginning of a retreat. Borrow a book from the library for use during your stay. On cool evenings, the warm fireplace is an inviting place to curl up with a book or a cup of tea. The walls are adorned with art work by community members.

Dining Room

This is the main dining area where meals are taken during retreats and gatherings. Self-service coffee, tea and hot chocolate are available in the dining room at all times. During retreats, snacks are often available here.

Shalom Room

This spacious and comfortable room is the hub of the Shalom Process and the common meeting space for all events. The room is a perfect place to socialize after hours, because it is away from the bedrooms.

Our Kitchen

The Kitchen is often the hub of social activity during events.

Meals are served buffet style and offer a selection of wholesome home cooked fare.

Shalom Mountain has an extensive vegetable and herb garden. At harvest time in particular, there is a bounty of organic, fresh food.

All waste vegetable matter is composted, and returns to the earth to fertilize next year’s crop. Paper, plastic, glass and cans are all recycled

The Pavilion

Designed by architect Deb Fausch, and built by community members under the skilled direction of Paul Doud, the Pavilion provides an outdoor gathering place. This structure serves as a meeting place for many community events in the spring, summer and fall. Complete with sound system and portable walls, and the ability to bring the indoors out, the pavilion is a welcome expansion to the indoor facilities at Shalom Mountain.

The Land

Shalom sits on 70 acres of beautiful woodland. To get a real feel for the Mountain, explore the grounds when you’re here.

High Meadow

Walking up the path, past the pond that in summer produces a symphony of amphibious sound, the High Meadow provides a vista overlooking the property. On the plateau of the Mountain sits a fire pit, a source of warmth, and a gathering place for community and ritual.

The Standing Stones

The Standing Stones hold a story and stand as beacons for journeyers. The stone is over 500 million years old and was part of several continents before landing in North America. The rose granite was quarried from a site in Connecticut and the same stone serves as the base for the Statue of Liberty. The North stone at the far end of the property and the Birthing stone are flanked by the other two. There are many versions of story attached to the four stones. What is yours?

Labyrinth

Past the West Stone, through the wrought iron arbor, is the Labyrinth. A labyrinth is not a maze. There are no wrong turns or dead ends. Instead, it is a patterned tool for walking meditation. The single path leads one into the center, and the same path returns one to the outside.

Trails

There are several trails on the property. Enjoy the trees and wildlife and the experience of being closer to nature.
